Raks Postings
Submitted by Phil Weaver on Sat, 2008-07-19 22:33.What if people noticed nice things more often. What would happen if people really made notice of the nice things others do.
I've had this idea for awhile that I would post on this site anytime I see someone really going out of their way to do something good. So today, after witnessing something nice I am finally inspired enough to put my lazy fingers to the keyboard.
This morning while on my usual dog walk at the river below Hogan Dam I ran into a couple on the trail. As the trail is windy you sometimes unexpectedly encounter people by surprise. This couple was also walking their dog but they both had garbage bags and were picking up trash as they go.
I do this myself occassionally but for some reason I had stopped. I've been noticing the last couple of weeks that there was a lot of trash buildup but today when I walked there was none. Everything had been cleaned. I've got to say it was really really nice.
Not only did this couple do a great job of cleaning the river, they also inspired me to do the same. And maybe this post will inspire more.
So here's the challenge. Anytime you witness something nice, whether it's an individual or a business, come here and post about it. Lets see what happens.
Use the tag Raks (right below where you title your post in the field called Valley Springs Issues type the word Raks) short for Random acts of Kindness and all of these posts will be organized together.
Make a Nice Day :-)

Head over to Murphys and let the enjoyment begin
Submitted by Phil Weaver on Sun, 2008-07-20 07:00.The tourism heart of Calaveras County is Murphys, a former mining town that recently has morphed into a place so hip that some are calling it the "Carmel of the Mother Lode." Much of the fun at Moaning Cavern is well above ground – the state's first zip line offers a 30-second thrill ride. Another, longer run is planned. The Murphys Historic Hotel is one of the state's oldest operating hotels. Many 19th century movers and shakers stayed here, and some spirits, it is said, still go bump in the night. Gold, and lots of it, populated Calaveras County. Picturedt, the world's largest specimen of crystalline gold leaf, 44 pounds, is on display at the Heritage Museum, in a vault and behind bulletproof glass. The new gold, wine grapes: a Stevenot Vineyardsplot, one of many vineyards in the area producing mostly red wines. Wine tasting in Murphys. Splashing at Murphys Community Park.
